The SSS provides updates on terrorism suspects' trials, shedding light on recent developments in the fight against terror in Nigeria. On November 19, Justice Emeka Nwite will continue the trial of two terrorism suspects, Mahmud Muhammad Usman and Abubakar Abba, who are wanted internationally. Usman, the self-styled Emir of ANSARU, is accused of coordinating terrorist sleeper cells across Nigeria and orchestrating high-profile kidnappings and robberies, using proceeds to finance terrorism. Abba, Usman's chief of staff, led the 'Mahmudawa' cell around Kainji National Park, a border area between Niger, Kwara, and Benin. The Office of the National Security Adviser claims Usman received training in Libya from 2013 to 2015, specializing in weapons handling and IED fabrication. Usman and Abba face 32-count terrorism charges, with Usman pleading guilty to illegal mining and receiving a 15-year sentence. Abba pleaded not guilty. The DSS also prosecutes Khalid Al-Barnawi, accused of the 2011 Abuja UN bombing, and other suspects in ongoing trials. The DSS's diligence in arresting and prosecuting terrorism suspects is highlighted by Director General Tosin Ajayi, emphasizing accountability for disrupting Nigeria's peace.
